A cushion inspired by the "Silk Textile with Winged Horses" (Sasanian or Sogdian period, 1st – 2nd century AH/7th - 8th century CE), part of the Baghdad: Eye's Delight exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art. Opulent silks from Iran and Central Asia were fashionable at the Abbasid court. They were either used for luxury clothes worn by the elite or for interior furnishing, such as pillows, curtains or floor coverings. Luxurious fabrics were often decorated with animals or mythological creatures in pearl roundels as in this textile, with its large motif of winged horses.
