A notebook with the imprint of the "Monumental Illuminated copy of the Qur'an" (Abbasid period, 7th century AH/13th century CE), part of the Baghdad: Eye's Delight exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art. The Qur'an displays beautiful illuminations, particularly in its opening pages (of which only the left page survives). The frontispiece presents a complex design of interlocking circular lines, floral motifs and foliate strapwork that draws from the formal experimentations developed by illuminators in the previous centuries.
