Khalid Albaih (b. 1980) is a Romanian-born, Qatari-raised, Sudanese award-winning artist, writer, and cultural producer, known for his political and socially engaged work across mediums. His potent imagery and incisive commentary traverse journalism and visual art. Known universally as Khartoon!, his work first rose to prominence online during the Arab Spring, becoming a symbol of resistance across the Arab world.

Albaih’s cartoons have been published in major global outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, The Atlantic, and BBC. His work has also been shown internationally in exhibitions like It’s Not Funny: Political Cartoons by Khalid Albaih at the Arab American Museum (2015), Project Atrium at MOCA Jacksonville (2019), and notable global platforms including documenta fifteen in Kassel. He has received several fellowships and residencies, including the Soros Arts Fellowship (2018), a Freedom Artists Residency through the Artists at Risk Connection in New York (2019), and the Oak Fellowship at the Oak Institute for Human Rights (2016).

Alongside his artistic practice, Albaih is the co-editor of the collaborative book Sudan Retold, founder of the Khartoum Art + Comics Library, and editor-in-chief of KhartoonMag.com, a platform nurturing Sudanese cartoonists and diasporic voices.
