A manuscript inspired by the painting "The Nightmare of Zahhak" (Safavid period, 931942- AH / 15251535- CE) housed at the Museum of Islamic Art. The painting depicts the evil king Zahhak as he wakes up terrified from a nightmare announcing his death by the hands of the Iranian hero Faridun. This beautiful folio once belonged to the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp, probably the most luxurious Shahnama manuscript ever produced for a royal patron. The Shahnama is the national epos of Iran and is considered one of the masterpieces of Persian literature.
